Valencia Mayor Faces Corruption Probe Over 'Undue Influence' in Handing Out Jobs
Anti-Corruption Probe Launched
Valencia's mayor María José Catalá and other key city officials are being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for allegedly fixing job appointments.
Also under investigation: Mar Chao (Port Authority president), Paula Llobet (Tourism councillor), Rocío Gil (Education councillor) and four council employees — all probed for prevarication and influence peddling.
What Triggered It?
The investigation started after a complaint by Compromís over how vacancies were filled by staff from the dissolved 'Valencia 2007 Consortium'. Spokesperson Papi Robles said: "It is no coincidence that several municipal foundations and the Port of Valencia itself advertised almost identical positions on the same dates."
