Man Gunned Down in Torrevieja Beach Area in Latest Costa Blanca Street Shooting
Fatal Shooting in Torrevieja's Beach Neighbourhood
A 25-year-old man was fatally shot in Torrevieja on Saturday evening in what is the latest in a string of violent incidents on the Costa Blanca.
Residents heard gunfire at around 10:30pm on Calle Bergantín in the Playa del Cura neighbourhood. The Guardia Civil confirmed approximately six shots were discharged, resulting in the death of an Algerian national.
What Happened
According to the Información newspaper, the victim sustained two bullet wounds to his shoulder and armpit region. Despite paramedic intervention, he could not be saved.
An unidentified individual on a motorcycle fired the shots toward an apartment building's entrance hall, leaving bullet holes in windows, walls, and building grilles.
The deceased resided with four other people, who were subsequently questioned by authorities. Police indicate preceding disputes among Algerian men led to this incident. The victim had allegedly participated in a firearms-related attack against a rival group approximately one month prior.
Second Fatal Shooting in Two Months
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday to officially confirm the cause of death. This represents the latest fatal shooting in Torrevieja, following the killing of Czech national Michael Maly on March 1 in the Rocío del Mar area. A British suspect was detained in connection with Maly's death.
Mayor Calls for More Police
Mayor Eduardo Dolón reiterated demands for additional Guardia Civil officers to be stationed at the city's barracks, amid growing concerns about violent crime in the popular expat and tourist destination.
