Rain and Storms Return to Parts of Spain — Weather Forecast April 6–9
Easter Sunshine Gives Way to Atlantic Storms
After a flawless Easter weekend of bright, cloudless skies and temperatures that had half of Spain reaching for the sunscreen, the rain is set to return — at least for those in the west of the country.
An approaching Atlantic front will bring widespread storms to western Spain from Monday evening, spreading into central regions by midweek. However, many other parts of the country — particularly the east coast — will continue to enjoy sunny days and temperatures in the high 20s.
Monday 6 April
Easter Monday starts off settled, with daytime temperatures hitting an incredible 30°C in large parts of Andalucía. However, an Atlantic front approaching towards the evening will increase cloud cover in the west, with a strong possibility of showers.
There's also a chance of Saharan dust in the southwest. Both day and nighttime temperatures will be unusually high for this time of year, although strong gusts of wind could cause problems in Andalucía, especially around the Gulf of Cádiz.
Tuesday 7 April
Tuesday is a real game of two halves. Widespread rain and thunderstorms will affect the entire west side of the country, from north to south. The east of Spain, on the other hand, will enjoy plenty of sunny spells alongside some cloudy intervals.
Where the rain hits, temperatures will drop dramatically, with few changes elsewhere.
Wednesday 8 April
The formation of a low-pressure system to the southwest of Spain — expected to remain stationary — will bring very cloudy skies and widespread rain to this area throughout Wednesday. While its exact path is still uncertain, AEMET expects the storms to move towards central Spain later in the day. The rest of the country should remain dry, if a little cloudy.
Temperatures will continue to fall in the southwest — very noticeably in western Andalucía — while climbing again in the east.
Thursday 9 April
Past the midweek hump, AEMET expects the weather to settle down considerably. There's still a chance of overcast skies and rain in the southwest during the morning, but moving into the afternoon and evening the skies should clear and temperatures will take an upswing across most of the country.
The Bottom Line
If you're on the Costa Blanca or the east coast, you're in luck — the sunshine continues. If you're in western Andalucía, Extremadura or central Spain, keep an umbrella handy from Tuesday onwards. Either way, the unsettled spell looks short-lived, with conditions improving again by Thursday.
