Spain Weather Forecast March 23–26: Bright and Sunny but Chilly for March
High Pressure Returns — and With It, the Sunshine
After the unsettled conditions that marked the very first days of spring, the weather across Spain is improving significantly this week. According to Spain's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), "high pressure is starting to take control again, helping to bring more settled conditions" across the country from Monday onward.
The forecast for March 23 to 26 is broadly positive: largely dry conditions, sunshine across most regions, and comfortable afternoons — though temperatures remain "around the seasonal average for March" rather than the warmer days that spring will eventually deliver. Early mornings will still feel cool, and those expecting Mediterranean heat may need to wait a little longer. But compared to the grey, wet weeks that preceded it, this week's weather is a genuine step in the right direction.
Day-by-Day Forecast
Monday, March 23
The week opens on an encouraging note. Central Spain, including Madrid, can expect a "dry day throughout with some bright spells breaking through" — not wall-to-wall sunshine, but a significant improvement on recent days. Temperatures in central regions will sit in the mid-teens, comfortable for outdoor activity without being warm enough to shed a jacket.
Andalucía is looking particularly good on Monday, with settled conditions, light winds, and good sunshine across the south. The Costa del Sol and Huelva coast should enjoy one of the better days of the week.
Mediterranean coastal areas — including the Costa Blanca, Valencia region, and Catalonia — stay largely dry with sunny intervals throughout the day. A pleasant start to the working week for residents along the eastern coast.
Tuesday, March 24
Tuesday continues the settled theme, with widespread sunshine across eastern and southern Spain. AEMET expects "very little in the way of rain anywhere" across the country — an encouraging forecast for anyone with outdoor plans.
Temperatures may edge slightly upward from Monday's levels, though they remain near seasonal averages rather than making any dramatic move toward summer warmth. The combination of sunshine and light winds should make for very pleasant conditions across much of the country, particularly along the Mediterranean coast where spring afternoons in this kind of weather are hard to beat.
Wednesday, March 25
Wednesday maintains the dry theme across most of Spain. Northern and inland areas may see some afternoon cloud development as is typical in spring — mountains and elevated inland areas can generate their own cloud cover during warmer afternoons — but rainfall remains minimal even where cloud appears.
The Mediterranean coast continues to benefit from calm, pleasant conditions with sustained sunshine through the day. For residents of Alicante, Valencia, Murcia, and the surrounding areas, Wednesday looks like one of the better days of the period.
Thursday, March 26
A slight change begins to develop as the week closes. A weak weather system approaching from the Atlantic introduces increasing cloud to northern and western areas — Galicia, Asturias, the Basque Country, and parts of Castilla y León may see cloud thickening during the day, with the possibility of some light rain arriving in the far northwest by evening.
Southern and eastern Spain, however, remain largely unaffected. Andalucía, Murcia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands should stay sunny and mild with typical late-March conditions — the kind of Thursday afternoon that makes you want to sit on a terrace with a coffee and watch the world go by.
Temperature Summary
Across the forecast period, temperatures follow a consistent pattern:
- Mornings — cool, particularly in inland and northern areas. Overnight lows may dip toward single figures in elevated locations and the meseta. A jacket is still necessary before the sun gets up
- Afternoons — comfortable across most of the country, with mid-to-upper teens across central Spain and potentially touching 20°C in favoured southern and coastal locations on the better days
- Coast — the Mediterranean coast benefits from milder overnight temperatures than inland areas, with minimums staying around 10–13°C and daytime highs in the mid-to-upper teens
The overall picture is one of pleasant late-winter/early-spring conditions — bright and enjoyable, but not yet the warmth that May and June will bring. Anyone hoping for a sudden leap into summer temperatures will need to be patient; the seasonal progression in Spain tends to be gradual through March and April before temperatures accelerate in May.
A Good Week to Get Outside
For residents across Spain — and particularly along the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol where outdoor life resumes properly once the winter rain clears — this week's forecast offers a welcome window. Walks, beach visits, cycling, outdoor lunches, and all the activities that make living in Spain so enjoyable in the warmer months are all very much back on the agenda.
The sea temperature along the Costa Blanca is still cool for swimming by summer standards, but the beaches will be uncrowded and the light in late March is particularly beautiful — long, golden afternoons without the intensity of summer heat.
Keep an eye on AEMET as Thursday approaches if you are in northern or western areas — the incoming system is weak but worth monitoring if you have outdoor plans for the end of the week.
