Storms Dominate Northern Spain — But What About the Mediterranean Coast?

A Week of Two Spains

While storms continue to dominate northern Spain, the picture along the Mediterranean coast is more varied this week — with some areas seeing genuine improvement and others still on alert for heavy rain. Here's what to expect region by region.

Murcia — Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain and Storms

Murcia is the most affected Mediterranean region this week. A yellow weather alert is active covering Monday night through late afternoon for heavy rain and storms, particularly in the Altiplano area. Rainfall in that zone could reach 15 litres per square metre in one hour, with thunderstorm probabilities of 40 to 70%.

Tuesday brings cloudy intervals with occasional light rain, clearing in coastal areas by the afternoon. Highs will range between 22–26°C.

Costa Blanca (Alicante) — Improving After Monday Showers

The Costa Blanca sees showers on Monday but conditions improve through the week, with patchy clouds and daytime highs reaching 25°C. Light rain remains possible early Tuesday. Night-time lows sit around 12°C — still mild for the time of year.

Málaga and Andalucía — Warm Terral Winds

Further south, Málaga benefits from terral winds pushing temperatures above 25°C on Tuesday, with Málaga city expected to reach 25.3°C and Manilva hitting 25°C. Conditions remain pleasant through Wednesday before clouds increase and temperatures drop to around 20°C by Thursday, as southerly winds bring cloud and potential showers.

Mallorca — Persistent Low Pressure

The Balearics are having the most prolonged unsettled spell. A persistent low-pressure trough continues affecting Mallorca through at least Saturday, with rain chances remaining and occasional heavy bursts and thunder — particularly in the northeast of the island. Daytime temperatures range between 21–24°C with generally light winds.

General Advice

For anyone travelling or living across these regions this week, the standard spring advice applies: pack layers and a waterproof, check forecasts regularly, and be aware that conditions can shift quickly between sunny intervals and sharp showers. The settled summer weather is coming — but it hasn't quite arrived yet.
