Spain Heats Up for Semana Santa as Temperatures Head Towards 30°C

The Weather Turns a Corner

After a windy and unsettled start to Semana Santa — with strong winds, rain and even snow in parts of the country at the beginning of the week — Spain's weather is finally improving, and the Easter getaway is looking considerably more promising than it first appeared.

Forecasters had been pointing to brighter skies and warmer temperatures as the week progressed, and that change is now taking hold. For many across Spain, the coming days will bring sunshine, rising temperatures, and a genuine chance to enjoy the holiday outdoors.

Mid-Week: Temperatures Climbing to 25–30°C

From Wednesday April 1, temperatures are climbing steadily across the country. Several areas are already reaching around 25°C, including Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Murcia and Seville. Parts of the Guadalquivir Valley could push closer to 29°C or 30°C by midweek.

The Weekend: Widespread Spring Warmth

By the weekend, the warmth becomes more widespread. Up to nine provinces are expected to exceed 25°C, including Bilbao, Granada, Jaén, Ourense and Toledo. Elsewhere, temperatures remain pleasantly mild — generally between 20°C and 25°C across much of the country.

Andalucía will see the most dramatic rise. Seville is expected to reach around 27°C by Thursday, climbing steadily to around 31°C by Sunday. Much of the rest of the region — including Huelva and Málaga — will sit comfortably in the mid to high twenties through the weekend.

Alicante and the Mediterranean Coast: Settled and Mild

Along the Mediterranean coast, conditions will feel more settled but slightly cooler than inland. Alicante and Valencia are expected to hold steady in the low twenties throughout the remainder of the week and into the weekend — pleasant spring weather for the processions, coastal walks and outdoor dining that define Easter on the Costa Blanca.

It is quite a turnaround from the start of the week, when strong north-westerly winds along the Mediterranean coast made things feel considerably cooler and more unsettled. Some gusts are still expected in exposed areas — potentially reaching up to 100km/h at times in the most exposed spots — so conditions will not be completely calm everywhere, but the overall picture is significantly improved.

Murcia: Warming Through the Week

Murcia is following a similar pattern to Andalucía. After a cooler start, the region is warming gradually through midweek. Across the Region of Murcia, temperatures will generally sit in the mid twenties by the weekend, with Murcia city itself reaching around 26°C by Sunday.

Exceptions to Watch

  • Balearic Islands: Some rain is possible between Wednesday and Thursday before conditions improve
  • Canary Islands: The focus shifts to heat and dust — forecasters are warning of a significant influx of Saharan dust, with temperatures in Tenerife reaching around 27°C before dipping slightly afterwards

The Bottom Line for Easter

This is a much more positive Semana Santa forecast than the stormy opening to the week suggested. For those on the Costa Blanca and across Mediterranean Spain, expect settled conditions in the low twenties — ideal for the evening processions. For those further south and inland, temperatures edging towards 30°C will make this feel like a genuine early summer weekend.
