More Help Than You Might Think

With rising rents, house prices and the cost of living, being a young person in Spain is challenging. But there are several aid packages and benefits aimed at under-35s available in 2026 — from subsidies and tax incentives to training programmes. Here's the full list.

Youth Rental Bonus — Up to €250/Month

Young people can receive up to €250 per month towards renting a primary residence, or a smaller amount for renting a room. The benefit lasts two years, as long as you have a regular source of income.

Eligibility:

  • Aged 18 to 35
  • Annual income less than €25,000
  • Rent cannot exceed €900/month in high-demand areas or €600 elsewhere
  • For rooms: €450/month in high-demand areas or €300 elsewhere

A new application period is expected to be announced soon.

Rent-to-Own Programmes

Rent-to-own programmes for subsidised housing allow young people to rent while putting some of that money towards a future purchase. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a new scheme of almost €30,000 so young people can live in a permanently protected home and eventually acquire it.

A separate aid package of up to €10,800 is available for home purchases in rural areas (municipalities with 10,000 inhabitants or fewer), not exceeding 20% of the purchase cost. Age limit: 35.

Discounted Travel Passes

Several discounted transport options are available:

  • €30/month nationwide travel pass for unlimited travel on state-owned public transport (under 26)
  • €10 Renfe season ticket for rail networks (under 26)
  • Regional discounts of up to 70% on regular passes in many areas

Support for Youth Employment

Companies that hire young people under 35 — especially on permanent contracts — can benefit from social security contribution reductions, encouraging more hiring.

The Youth Guarantee European initiative is aimed at those aged 16–30 who are looking for employment and not currently studying or training. It offers full integration support into the labour market.

There are also specific free and discounted training programmes and active employment policies being expanded this year.

Vocational Training and Study Grants

Vocational training and retraining programmes are being promoted for unemployed or low-skilled young people, with courses tailored to in-demand industries. The government has invested €1.3 billion in vocational training, creating 824 new training centres for digital skills, 45,000 vocational training places and 1,500 classrooms for technology and entrepreneurship.

Grants for university and vocational training studies are being expanded. The next application round for educational scholarships is expected in April 2026 — worth getting organised early.

Regional Tax Deductions

Young people can benefit from tax deductions depending on where they live:

  • Andalucía — 5% deduction in income tax for under-35s acquiring a primary residence
  • Valencia — reduced Property Transfer Tax (ITP) to 6% for under-35s
  • Castilla-La Mancha — reduced ITP rate of 4% for under-36s
  • Galicia — reduced ITP rate of 3% for young buyers

Check with your regional government or a gestor for the full list of deductions available in your area.
