Major €200,000 Facelift Underway for Avenida del Cabo in Orihuela Costa
€200,000 Investment in Cabo Roig's Busiest Road
Orihuela City Council has begun a major €200,000 refurbishment of Avenida del Cabo in Cabo Roig, Orihuela Costa — one of the area's most heavily trafficked coastal roads, used by residents and tourists year-round.
Councillor Víctor Valverde confirmed the works are already making a noticeable difference along the route, particularly ahead of the busy summer season.
What's Already Done
The first phase of the project is complete: the old sodium vapour street lamps along the avenue have been replaced with modern LED units, improving visibility for drivers and pedestrians while significantly reducing energy consumption.
What's Coming Next
Upcoming works include:
- Installation of 6 new lampposts in sections that were previously unlit and had suffered repeated damage from accidents
- Reconstruction of approximately 14 pedestrian crossings to bring them up to current accessibility standards, including proper kerb ramps and corrected gradients
- Improvements to the central reservation
Part of a Wider Upgrade Programme
The Avenida del Cabo project forms part of Orihuela City Council's ongoing infrastructure renewal programme covering several streets and public spaces across Orihuela Costa. The council has been gradually working through upgrades to bring the area's roads and public realm up to modern standards.
