Netflix Hiking Prices in Spain Again — Every Plan Going Up by €2 a Month
Another Price Rise, Another €2 a Month
Netflix is raising its prices in Spain again. Spanish subscribers have been notified of increases across all plan tiers, with every option going up by €2 per month — the second price increase in just 18 months, coming approximately one month after the same hikes were applied in the United States.
New Prices from Your Next Billing Cycle
| Plan | Old Price | New Price |
|---|---|---|
| Ad-supported (cheapest) | €6.99/month | €8.99/month |
| Standard (ad-free) | €12.99/month | €14.99/month |
| Premium | €19.99/month | €21.99/month |
The new charges will apply from your next billing cycle — Netflix has notified Spanish customers directly. Across the year, the increase amounts to an additional €24 annually regardless of which plan you are on.
How Spain's Approach Differs from Italy
Netflix's decision to provide clear advance notice to Spanish subscribers stands in contrast to how the company handled previous increases in Italy. The Court of Rome ruled that Netflix's price hikes between 2017 and 2024 were unlawful — finding the company had applied increases "without clear consent and proper notice" — and ordered refunds to some customers following a case brought by consumer group Movimento Consumatori.
The Italian ruling focused on notification procedures rather than the price increases themselves. Italian Netflix plans have since risen and are now displayed on the company's website. Spain's clear notification process appears designed to avoid a similar legal challenge.
What to Do If You Don't Want to Pay More
If the new prices feel too steep, there are a few options worth considering:
- Downgrade your plan — if you are on Standard or Premium, dropping to the ad-supported tier at €8.99 is still cheaper than the old Standard plan
- Cancel and return — Netflix regularly offers promotional rates to returning subscribers
- Review your subscriptions — with streaming costs rising across multiple platforms, this is a good moment to audit what you actually use
For expats in Spain managing household budgets in euros, the cumulative effect of streaming price rises — Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and others have all increased charges in recent years — is worth factoring into monthly outgoings.
