Winter Storms Leave Murcia With a €6 Million Road Repair Bill — Works Already Underway

228 Kilometres of Damaged Roads

Emergency repair works are underway on more than 228 kilometres of state roads across the Region of Murcia after a series of storms between December 2025 and February 2026 left significant damage to road surfaces throughout the area.

The Ministry of Transport has allocated €6 million to the rehabilitation programme, with repair crews already active in Lorca, Cartagena and Jumilla where the worst of the damage is concentrated. The works began in March and are expected to be completed by June 2026, weather permitting.

Which Roads Are Affected?

The roads included in the repair programme are:

• A-7 motorway — between kilometre points 566 and 656
• A-30 — from km 84.3 to 189.1
• A-33 — from km 35.6 to 48.2
• Access and ring roads CT-32, CT-34, MU-32 and MU-33

Drivers should expect some disruption during the works, with selective lane and road closures in place as needed. However, the Ministry has confirmed that closures will be avoided at weekends, on public holidays and on dates designated as special traffic operations by the DGT, to keep disruption to a minimum during busier periods.

Accident Blackspot Getting a Roundabout

Separately, the regional Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender a €604,000 project to replace a notorious accident blackspot on the RM-F35 road at its junction with Camino del Sifón in the Campo de Cartagena area with a proper roundabout.

Years of rear-end and head-on collisions at the X-shaped junction have continued despite previous safety measures. Companies have until April 28 to submit their bids, and once awarded the work is expected to take six months.

Part of a National Programme

The Murcia repairs form part of a wider national emergency road rehabilitation programme being carried out across several autonomous communities — including Galicia, Madrid, Castilla y León and Aragón — all of which suffered similar storm damage during the same winter period.
