Málaga Is Hosting Spain's Most Iconic LEGO Exhibition — Until November 2026
Thirty Years of LEGO Gaming Comes to the Costa del Sol
LEGO Gaming: The Exhibition has arrived at Málaga's OXO Video Game Museum, where it will run until November 1, 2026. Having previously toured in Madrid, the show brings together three decades of LEGO's history in the digital gaming world — from its earliest physical sets to its blockbuster video game franchises — across seven themed areas packed with large-scale sculptures, rare pieces and interactive spaces.
What's Inside
The centrepiece of the exhibition is a Super Mario sculpture built from 22,176 LEGO bricks and weighing 52 kilograms. According to LEGO Brand Manager Pilar Vilella, the Nintendo and LEGO collaboration that produced the Mario partnership required "more than 6,000 prototypes thrown away" before the final product was approved — a testament to the obsessive attention to detail behind the brand.
One of the most unusual pieces on display is a 1958 wooden duck from LEGO's own headquarters in Billund, Denmark. Vilella notes that it "rarely leaves headquarters" and represents "LEGO's artisanal origins" — a reminder that the company began as a maker of wooden toys decades before its signature plastic brick was created.
Beyond the sculptures, the exhibition covers the full arc of LEGO's gaming history, including:
- LEGO Island (1997) — one of the first LEGO video games
- LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (2005) — the franchise that defined a generation of LEGO gaming
- Special LEGO Pokémon sets
- LEGO Party and LEGO Voyagers exhibits
The show also includes audiovisual materials and sets sourced directly from LEGO's Billund headquarters, as well as interactive areas where visitors can play LEGO games and build.
Bridging the Physical and Digital
Vilella described the exhibition as "an important celebration of how we've built bridges between physical and digital worlds" — a theme that runs through the entire show, tracing LEGO's evolution from wooden toys to one of the world's most recognisable video game brands.
The event has the backing of the Diputación's Deputy for Education and Youth, José Santaolalla.
