Massive Boat Overturns in the Street at Estepona Marina — Not in the Water
Boat Topples from Lorry at Harbour Entrance
A large boat overturned onto its side in the street at the entrance to the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona on Thursday evening, May 7, at approximately 8:00pm. The vessel lost balance while being transported on a specialised flatbed lorry as it navigated the main roundabout at the harbour entrance — the size and height of the boat proving too much for the turn.
The boat fell sideways off the truck and came to rest across the roadway, blocking the road at the harbour entrance and spilling bilge water and accumulated waste across the street.
A Long Time in the Water
The vessel had not been a straightforward transport job. The boat had been submerged at a marina pontoon for two to three months before being refloated by salvage crews. It was then moved ashore via the local boatyard and secured onto the transport lorry for removal — the journey that ended in Thursday's incident at the roundabout.
Emergency Response
The incident prompted a response from firefighters, Policía Local, and Policía Nacional. Emergency teams worked to contain the spilled liquids, close off the affected zone around the harbour entrance, and plan recovery operations to right the vessel and restore normal access to the marina.
The road at the harbour entrance remained closed while recovery work was under way.
