Dozens Evacuated as Fire Torches Shops and Cars in Costa del Sol Tourist Hotspot
Early Morning Blaze Forces Evacuations
Dozens of residents were forced to flee their homes after a fire tore through shops and vehicles in a popular Costa del Sol tourist area in the early hours of Friday morning.
Flames engulfed two premises in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena, in Málaga province at around 4.45am. Windows in nearby apartments shattered from the intense heat as the blaze spread rapidly.
Vehicles Destroyed
The fire destroyed seven motorbikes and three cars parked nearby, according to police. Emergency services responded quickly to evacuate residents from surrounding buildings.
No injuries were reported.
Cause Under Investigation
Forensic police are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this stage. Arroyo de la Miel is one of Benalmádena's main commercial and residential areas, popular with both tourists and the large expat community on the western Costa del Sol.
