British Fugitive Wanted for Drug Trafficking Arrested in Benidorm

Arrested on a European Warrant

A 32-year-old British man wanted by the United Kingdom for drug trafficking and money laundering has been arrested in Benidorm, Alicante, by the Policía Nacional. The arrest was made acting on a European Arrest Warrant and a surrender order issued by UK authorities. Extradition proceedings are now underway.

The Criminal Network

The suspect is alleged to have been a key member of a criminal network operating out of Blackburn, England, between 2022 and 2024. His alleged role was overseeing the distribution of cocaine, ketamine and cannabis. He is also accused of money laundering through his own personal bank accounts and those of associates connected to the investigation.

If convicted in the United Kingdom, he faces a potential life sentence.

Why He Fled to Spain

The man fled the UK after learning that one of his criminal associates had been detained, fearing he too was under investigation. British authorities responded by issuing both the European Arrest Warrant and the surrender order. Spanish law enforcement received intelligence indicating he was residing in Benidorm and launched a targeted operation that successfully located and detained him.

Extradition Process

Following his arrest, the man was placed under the jurisdiction of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court (Juzgado Central de Instrucción de la Audiencia Nacional) — the Spanish court responsible for handling extradition matters. The case will now proceed through the formal extradition process.

Benidorm has long been a destination for British nationals — both tourists and longer-term residents. It has also periodically featured in cases involving UK fugitives exploiting Spain's Costa Blanca as a place to avoid justice, a pattern that law enforcement on both sides of the channel continue to work to disrupt.
