Seven people have been injured after part of a hotel roof suddenly collapsed in Benidorm on Easter Sunday.
Emergency services were called at 2.20pm after receiving reports that part of the dining room roof had given way at the Poseidon Palace hotel in the Poniente beach area of the city. Approximately 60 people were having lunch at the time of the incident.
Injuries
Medical personnel treated five men and two women for injuries at the scene:
- An eight-year-old boy and a 78-year-old man were discharged at the scene after receiving treatment
- The other five people, aged between 33 and 80, were taken to hospital
- None of the injuries were said to be serious
No nationalities of the victims have been disclosed by authorities.
A Popular British Holiday Destination
Benidorm remains one of the most popular destinations in Spain for British tourists, with around 900,000 UK holidaymakers visiting the resort every year. The Poseidon Palace is a well-known hotel in the Poniente beach area, one of Benidorm's two main beach zones.
An investigation into the cause of the collapse is expected to follow. The incident is a reminder that even in well-established tourist resorts, building maintenance and safety remain critical concerns — particularly in older hotel properties during peak holiday periods.
