Alicante Airport to Launch New Fast Track Check-In Service Before the Summer Rush

Priority Check-In Coming to Alicante This Summer

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is set to launch a new fast track check-in service in June 2026, just in time for the peak summer travel season that brings millions of passengers through one of Spain's busiest tourist gateways.

The service, operated by airport management company Aena, will offer a dedicated priority baggage drop-off lane allowing passengers to bypass standard check-in queues. Setup preparations are expected to begin between late April and early May, with the service live ahead of the summer surge.

How It Will Work

The fast track lane will be located near the main check-in desks, with clear signposting to direct passengers to the dedicated zone. Passengers will be able to access the service in two ways:

  • Book in advance through participating airlines when purchasing or managing their ticket
  • Arrange access on arrival at the airport for a small additional charge

The exact pricing has not yet been confirmed, but Aena has indicated a small additional fee will apply — in line with similar services at other Spanish airports.

Alicante Joins the Major Airports

The launch brings Alicante into alignment with several of Spain's other major airports — including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga-Costa del Sol — which already offer priority baggage services. For a facility that handles the volume of international traffic Alicante does, the absence of such a service had been a notable gap.

Who Will Benefit Most

Aena anticipates the fast track service will be particularly useful for:

  • Families with children — for whom long check-in queues with luggage are especially arduous
  • Elderly travellers — who may find extended standing in busy terminal queues difficult
  • Passengers on fixed-schedule transfers — where predictable timing is essential
  • Business travellers — seeking efficient, reliable departure times

Why It Matters for the Costa Blanca

Alicante-Elche is the primary airport serving the Costa Blanca — one of the most popular British expat and holiday destinations in Europe. The airport handles significant numbers of passengers from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia year-round, with volumes peaking sharply from June through September.

For the large community of British residents living along the Costa Blanca who make regular trips back to the UK — as well as for the millions of tourists arriving each summer — a faster, more predictable check-in experience is a meaningful improvement to what can otherwise be one of the more stressful parts of travel through a busy airport.

If you are flying from Alicante this summer, it is worth checking with your airline in the coming weeks whether the fast track service is available on your booking.
